“From a child with no future to an adult who is the future.”
Based in the Overberg, Western Cape
This year, part of the profits from the Patatfees sporting events will be donated to the Kingdom Ambassadors Children’s Village in the Overberg. The Children’s Village is a safe haven for orphans and ill-treated children. Here they have found a home and have become part of a family with guardians who love them, with healthy food to eat, sharing their home with brothers and sisters, receiving schooling based on a program that offers all the benefits of excellent teaching, culture and sport. The Children's Village, with the help of donations and sponsorship is working towards becoming self-sustaining one day.
The Children’s Village
The team have converted an old farmhouse into an Orphanage, and are registered for foster care as a place of safety. On 20 June 2016 the first 4 children were placed in safe care. They are, a girl aged 8, a boy aged 6, a little boy aged 3 and baby aged 1 month. On 20 July 2016 another boy aged 8 was placed in safe care with us. On 11 August 2016 the first child was placed in foster care with us, a little girl who is 16 months of age. There are currently 21 kids in safe care.
Presently there are 6 staff who take care of the children. They rotate so that the staff are able to provide the best care possible for the children. There is also planning for a pre-primary school in collaboration with the department of Social Works. The teacher has been trained in a four year Educare course for the little ones.
“There are already many success stories of children who have emerged from desperate circumstances, but were yet successful due to the fact that they were given a chance in life, inspired us, and for that reason we believe that there are still many more such children in the Overberg. Presently there is a great need among children in Napier and Bredasdorp as a result of the enormous drug problem in the area. We have always dreamt and believed that when the right time comes, we can get actively involved, helping children.” Said by founders Kosie and Lize van Zyl.
They started the children's village as a labour of love and are totally committed to the children they care for. As a family they bear the major brunt of the finances to support and help the children providing food, clothes, accommodation, transport and schooling.
It is so heart-warming to see such attention and care given to those that need it most… thank you for your tireless dedication Kingdom Ambassadors Children’s Village team!
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” Nelson Mandela
